The Jersey Journal Obituary Project

In 2007 The HCGS partnered with the Jersey City Free Public Library to assist in creating an index to the death notices in The Jersey Journal newspaper.

Volunteers were working to create a searchable index database for the library that would ultimately contain up to 50,000 entries from the early part of the 20th century. However, by April 2008 Newsbank purchased the rights to digitize The Jersey Journal archives and will ultimately make them available online (for a fee). Because of this the HCGS and the Library have discontinued the indexing project.

Originally only HCGS members had access to this index but with the closing of the project we are now making all of the months completed by volunteers available to the general public.

Note: the indicies are for personal, non-commercial genealogical research only and may not be compiled, repurposed or otherwise used in a derivative format for commercial sale.
