Union City/West Hoboken Police Force Appointees 1879-1946

This database includes 231 names of individuals from the Union City Police Force (UC) and/or its predecessors; West Hoboken Police (WH) and Union Hill Police (UH), Hudson County, New Jersey. Many records include the date of appointment to the Force, age when appointed, date retired and death date. This is not a complete record of the police force and not all records contain complete information.

Information was obtained from the "Journal Registers of Charles L McCarthy Sr" who was a police officer in West Hoboken and Union City from 1901 to 1927. West Hoboken and Union Hill merged in 1926 to become Union City. The origin of Officer McCarthy's information is not known but he added to his journal on a daily basis for over 20 years prior to his death in 1955. Many of his journal entries are references or clippings from the local newspapers.
