The Hudson County Genealogical Society Receives 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Status

NOVEMBER 5, 2008 - JERSEY CITY, NJ. - The Hudson County Genealogical Society, the only genealogy and family history group focused entirely on the study of Hudson County New Jersey, is pleased to announce that on October 20, 2008 it received notification of the acceptance of its 501(c)(3) tax-exempt non-profit status from the Internal Revenue Service.

Bob Murgittroyd, President of the Hudson County Genealogical Society said: “Granting of this tax exempt status satisfies of one the early goals we set for ourselves.” He also thanked HCGS Treasurer Dee Berry who was instrumental in managing the application process and working with the IRS.

Receiving tax-exempt status as a public charity is an important milestone for The Hudson County Genealogical Society that enables the HCGS to receive tax-deductible bequests, devises, transfers or gifts under section 2055, 2106 or 2522 of the Code.
