Civil War Pension File of Emanuel J. Reichhelm

About This Item

Emanuel J. Reichhelm was enlisted as a Chaplain in the 82nd Regiment Illinois Volunteers in the Civil War and after discharge applied for a disability pension. In later years he was a resident of Uniontown, Hudson County, NJ and died years after his pension application was rejected and numerous appeals. It is a fascinating look into the detailed process required to apply for a Civil War disability pension.

This collection of documents obtained from the National Archives was donated by David C. Bailey, Sr., Naperville, IL to The Hudson County Genealogical & Historical Society on 3/4/2010. The collection is not currently indexed but individual images may be browsed.
