For Members

The Hudson County Genealogical and Historical Society’s Executive Board is proud to announce the following membership courtesy to both new and current Society members in good standing, effective Jan. 1, 2021*:

  • Members may request up to two free birth, marriage, death certificate or obituary lookups per membership year, providing you have specific dates. Dates must include day, month and year to be considered specific.
  • For birth, marriage, death certificate or obituary searches without specific dates, the cost to members will be $6 per lookup.

For Non-Members

We are also offering non-members the ability to request lookups or custom research for a fee*:

  • Quick lookups for non-members: birth, marriage, death certificate or obituary lookups, when specific dates are provided, will be $6 each. Dates must include day, month and year to be considered specific.
  • Custom research: For research other than a quick lookup where specific dates are provided, hourly research fees will be charged at the rate of $15 per hour (2 hour minimum).

Terms & Conditions

Free birth, marriage, death and obituary lookups for Society members are limited to 2 lookup requests per membership, per year. Free lookups expire at the end of each year — unused lookups do not roll over. All membership types receive no more than 2 free lookups per membership, per year.

The length of documents in our cemetery databases varies, therefore fees for copies will be determined on an individual basis and invoiced accordingly. No copies or other research results will be be supplied until payment for services is rendered in full.

For all quick lookups, fees are payable at the time you request the lookup. For custom research, the fee of $15 per hour (two hours minimum) of research is payable at the time you request the research. Additional fees for time spent beyond one hour will be invoiced upon completion. No research or information will be supplied until payment for services is rendered in full.

When requesting a quick lookup, dates must include day, month and year to be considered specific dates.

Research courtesies and fees are charged whether our searches are successful or not. All fees are non-refundable.

NOTE: Ongoing archive restrictions and reduced hours may hamper efforts to obtain some documents (for example, some repositories are not open for in-person research). Please bear with us as we try to fulfill your requests.

Custom Research Request (Anyone)


For research other than a quick lookup where specific dates are provided, hourly research fees will be charged at the rate of $15 per hour (2 hour minimum). To begin, you must pay for the initial 2 hours of research ($30) with the 'Pay Now' button below. All fees are non-refundable.
